Hi Darwin,

The problem has been described by others, so that's why I didn't stated it explicitly, let me try using other words:

Rumors about of lack of transparency on what is asked to the fellows, documents produced by non-staff, different possible ways to influence how the fellows participate, and what may be their positions in policies, etc.

What I can say, and this has been confirmed to me by 3 different people, in different situations, is that they get a sessions, in an hotel different that the venue (those comments were from the Kampala meeting), and they got clear suggestions about what is good an what is not in terms of policies. I'm trying to be soft and neutral in my wording. So, don't take it literal.

The fellow told me "yes, of course, if we get sponsored, the sponsoring organization should be able to expect something from us, not?".

I'm not saying that this is true or not, but I'm saying that just the bad feeling that this may happen is not good, and transparency in all the process is a must.

Is that a clear problem statement for you?

Regards,
Jordi

Sponsors don't need to know who are the fellows, AFRINIC will select them based in the rules jointly agreed with the sponsor. AFRINIC and sponsor jointly define other details such as what training materials are provided to the fellows, how they are evaluated and if they don't match certain requirements (such as not actually coming to the sessions, etc.), if they don't get reimbursed all the costs, etc.

Jordi - Thanks for opening some thoughts on the solutions, but can we first agree on the problem statement?

You stated the solution without defining the problem it solves.
