Why ?
IMHO the only reason I see this interest to v4 is *business* and
ignorance (but on the latter more and more trainings are organised over
the years) .

At least if it was business opportunities for all the layers in AFRICA ,
I'd have understood a little bit. But that's not the case. v4 profits to
a little niche and it will continue to profit to some entities only.

Speaking specifically to universities and corporate customers : WHY do
people consider that they cannot work with IPv6 ? Why people do not want
to end the life quickly of v4 ? Why do you want to stay in your «pseudo»
comfort zone ? ;)
Even for governments, it will be very useful to use v6 because
identication will be easier to achieve ... You should carefully think
about it ...

A lot of people have already been trained on v6 ... So what next ? What
is your transition plan ? Have you already start it ?
I do not trust statements where it's said that people need (a lot of )
v4 in order to plan v6 deployment. The truth is : start v6 is easier
than what it would have been 10 years ago. The first step is committment.

Of course, v6 path is not perfect, they are issues but at least it works
in various cases. More and more issues can be adressed if more people
jump in the wagon.


I support all initiatives who favor rapid depletion of v4 address and at
the same time enforce v6 adoption and usage within africa .

I will be rude but I think existent member should not continue to ask v4
prefixes. That should not be the way forward. They should be reserved
for new members only; at the condition that their network will use v6
very soon.

On another field the community should think about this : What if we
deploy v6 links and use it to communicate between us in Africa ?
Are you afraid of losing links with people in other continents ? I may
be wrong but all the major players use v6.
I am in favor of even throw away most (if not all) our last /8 and help
all african countries develop their v6 networks. (I know it's rude)

While we are stuck on a «battle» between two draft policies who will
lead us nowhere at that level, I suggest to the community to discuss
about this : v4 is like a gold mine as long as we will continue to keep
it in a safe. Its scarcity will profit to a little fraction of people be
it in Africa or outside. With v6 the wealth will not be on the
distribution of address but on the services who will raise because of
its large possibilities.
