[rpd] Report of the Soft Landing isuue

Sami,

I agree that you are meant to foster discussion so that we can objectively discuss.

It is *NOT* however the job of the co-chairs to *BUILD* consensus - Consensus is there, or it isn't there, and if it isn't there, it is up to the authors of the policy to adjust and work with the community till it is there, or have their policy fail ratification. It 100% is not the job of the co-chairs to do more than gauge the consensus. BUILDING the consensus is in effect saying that every policy proposal should have a middle ground that everyone can agree on - that is simply not accurate - there are plenty of policies I have seen come and fail that failed because there is no middle ground - and there is no problem with that - it simply means the community didn't believe in what they saw and the authors couldn't adjust enough to get the community to believe in it.

But it certainly is not the job of the co-chairs in any way shape or form to build consensus, it is the job of the co-chairs to gauge consensus. That is it

Andrew

Thanks McTim for the reminder
However, as co-chairs our mandate is to condider every single propsal comming from the community and work to foster a condtructive discussion, this necessitates all members to objectivly discuss the ideas and only good ideas can be further developed to a policy.
I think ourandate is also to find a middle group to BUILD the consensus so we have to be positive and innovative rather than just rapporteurs- you know better than me in this regards

Sicerely
