Proposal Name: Addition of Contact Email to ASN Whois Bulk Data
Reference: AFPUB-2010-GEN-007
Author: Ke Wang, Google Inc

[1.0] Introduction

The current provision for AfriNIC whois data in bulk format, according
to the process defined on the AfriNIC website, omits contact information
(person objects) in all the data provided. This proposal suggests that
AS Numbers in the bulk data be availed with contact e-mail addresses.
The proposer is trying to find a way for his organization to be able to
notify Autonomous Systems when malware has been detected on their network.

[2.0] Implementation

If the AfriNIC Board ratifies this proposal, AfriNIC will modify the
scripts responsible for generating and publishing the whois data for
inclusion of contact e-mail addresses in “aut-num” whois database
objects. It will take not more than 3 months to integrate the change to
the current scripts.

[3.0] Possible Issues

An “aut-num” whois database objects currently has the following types of
contacts with e-mail addresses:

**Administrative contact.
**Technical contact.
**General “notify” e-mail address.

The proposer could define which role e-mail address is preferred. In
absence thereof, AfriNIC could default to the “general notify” e-mail
address. If it is not available, the technical-contact and
administrative contact will successively be listed.
