*sigh*
You're not getting it.
The US government has rules and restrictions about who can trade with who
If a country is on that list then a US entity cannot trade with them
That's all.
It doesn't matter if you or anyone else think X or Y or
A US entity cannot choose which laws they obey and which ones they ignore

It's an American entity so it is bound by US law
Sure i know it is, what is strange is that US law rebukes organizations with similar role as ICANN from supporting certain region. Well i was hoping for a reference to that.
The fact that there is or is not an internet connection is not relevant
Well i believe Internet has a lot of relevance in this, after-all we won't be talking ICANN/IANA if there ain't internet. So the point is why should i participate in growing ICANN (through domain purchases for instance) and be legally bound from benefiting from its initiatives....should there be any such restriction in the first place? (if it indeed existed).
IMHO i think funding should be the major and perhaps only thing that could make ICANN selective on which country to support.
Cheers!

Dear Hugo
The reason I say all this is not to criticise, is that if your recipient (ICANN's CEO) cannot understand your representations, he will not be able to respond appropriately or direct the right people accordingly as I know he would want to.
++1 the other thing will also be to suggest that mails like this (which seem to suggest conflict of interest) be sent directly to those concerned, as i don't think it has gotten to the level of posting(escalating) to a public list.
Then again, I am sure ICANN's by-now-vast resources would extend to having important missives translated, so I would suggest re-sending this in your native language.

PS: ICANN is an American company. I think it also would have difficulties (legal?) in funding representatives from North Korea and Cuba??
Hmm...am curious on how this works practically and will appreciate if you could further clarify your statement above, are you saying ICANN is restricted by law on countries to support? even though internet connectivity exist in those regions?
Regards
