please stop with the fear-mongering.

there’s a clash with internet governance meetings.  oh no!  it’s happened before, and will doubtless happen again.  the internet will continue to operate.

as a reminder, by design, there are no nail-in-the-coffin decisions made about policy at a PPM.  even if something gets to last call, there is still time to voice *legitimate* objections in last call.  or appeal.

cape town is definitely not more unsafe than most major cities;  please educate yourselves and stop believing the clickbait-press, or social media.  cape town has routinely won “best city to visit” type awards - and moreover, if you still feel afraid, participate remotely.

the fact that ATF and other large conferences (several times the size of an afrinic PPM) are routinely held in CPT should tell you all you need to know about “security”.

let’s not kid anyone;  ZA isn’t the safest country in the world.  but it’s disingenuous to compare xenophobic acts against blue-collars workers, to attending an afrinic PPM.  frankly, the three largest worries attendees should expect to have are:

(a)  finding reasonably priced accommodation (CPT can get crazy expensive, so please announce the venue asap, afrinic team);
(b)  taxi touts at the airport (like any other major city;  use public transport/uber/call a friend);
(c)  choosing which of CPT’s *many* varied eateries you’d want to try, in the short span of the PPM
