This is really bad.
So now the RPD, community or members lists are being used again to collect emails and spam them?
Is not just against the CoC, and in many countries against laws (for example GDPR and related ones like the Mauritius one), but also against the spirit of the community.
This is simple, even if there is no law, it is unethical to email anyone that you don’t know in person and has agreed to get emails from you, for any matter, and even less to push for voting someone. If I get such email, be sure that I will ask the Data Protection Agency to impose the maximum fine (up to 20 million euros), as any EU citizen or resident, is protected against that rubbish.
Should the candidates involved on this be disqualified as well?
Note that I don’t recall if I know personally Paul and I don’t know if he is aware of this spam, clearly he should disclose if he supported this and any possible relation with the sender organization.
Regards,
Jordi

Dear All, and in particular Lucilla,
I would appreciate if you refrain from sending unsolicited emails such as the below:
Dear Ultimate Linux Solutions Team,
I hope this email finds you well.
My name is Lucilla, and I work for LARUS Foundation. It is a non-profit organization that was established in 2018. Our work consists of striving to increase public engagement in the process of Internet policy development to make sure the Internet infrastructure remains free and fair for the foreseeable future.
There is an important election on 4th June 2021, for the AFRINIC Board election.
I am sending you this email today, to ask you to vote for Mr. Paul Wollner, who is running for seat 5 in the board election. As we all know, voting is how we can make a positive change in our communities. The e-voting will be open on 20th May 2021.
Currently, AFRINIC is in a huge mess, the community needs to take action and change this difficult situation for the better. After all, our common goal is to make the internet stable in Africa.
I know Mr. Paul Wollner, he is a highly qualified candidate with multiple experiences in the Internet industry. With his expertise and commitment, having him as a chairperson can only contribute to the improvement of AFRINIC’s services. Also, Mr. Wollner lived, studied, and worked in South Africa, that said, he has the sufficient baggage and is aware of the specificities of our continent, in terms of Internet technicalities, legislations and needs.
I ask for your kind support to become changemakers.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Best regards,
Lucilla
LF
Kind Regards,
Jaco
