Hi Noah,

In other RIRs the complaint was precisely in the other way around. People think that 6 months is a “too high” frequency.

I think 6 months is a point in the middle and in the proposal is stated that AFRINIC is able to update the period.

For example, the initial validation can take longer than 6 months. Once everybody is validated, may be 1 year after, AFRINIC can decide, to improve the quality of the contacts, in case they discover that there are many failures “in-between” validation periods (many folks changing their job and forgetting to update it), to make it every 3-4 months or whatever.

Regarding your other point, this is something that is not up to the proposal or the authors, but the community can make sure that if that happens, we take actions, because AFRINIC has our mandate to apply the policies.

That said, there is another proposal (policy compliance dashboard) that takes care of that situation.

Regards,

Jordi

Hi Jordi,

6 months is too long for periodic validation. Can that be updated immediately to a much shorter period say monthly or quarterly.

While I support this proposal, and assuming it gets ratified immediately, I would like to eventually here from Afrinic some guarantee that the proposal will actually be enforced.

So that it doesn't become another none enforceable proposal like the lame delegation proposal where some members have actually failed to fix their lame name servers in compliance with said policy.

And if some members fail to comply what happens? I would like this to be spelled out.

Cheers,

Noah
