Hi Jean Guelord, all,
You should not take my “challenge” as a negative thing, but in the other way around.
I live in a country, Spain, that had for many years, a fierce civil war and a dictatorial regime, terrorism. After that even in democracy, we still have political corruption, some population willing to separate from the country and declare unilateral independence (which will bring them back to the past and will let people born in that area, Catalonia, but not living there, like myself, in a very strange status), etc. So there is still a lot of confrontation and distrust and all that creates many victims, more poverty and more extreme differences between “social classes”. You can say is not the same, yes, but the real problem is that the feelings and fears are the same: not trusting yourself not challenging yourself to advance, to live in the future and not in the past because all the fears. If you don't try, you can't say "I can't do it".
Every region in the world believe they are “unique” and in some sense this is true, not just for every region, but for every country, for every part in every country and every human, and that’s one of the beauties of the humans.
However, distrusting yourself and not trying new things, especially when they have been tried before, will not make you stronger, instead will get keep you in the past.
Some comments in the list seems to believe that an online voting will be hacked for sure, because in Africa you have the major number of “bad guys” or “sleeping cells”, etc. Don’t take me wrong, I’m using extreme examples just to show you that. The point is that concern also happened in other regions. In fact, this kind of online voting happens in the RIRs, but doesn't happens for political elections (I’m not sure if any country in the world is doing that), while it will be technically perfectly possible. Everybody hast this kind of fears (further to the legal changes needed for online voting, but that’s a different issue).
LACNIC is a region very similar to AFRINIC in many senses. I can tell you that many folks would have never accepted on-line voting, but a few years ago, they started doing so, and nothing bad happened. And if it happens you learn from it and you improve. If there is a massive tampering of the system, the board has always the attribution to repeat it.
LACNIC never did an on-line policy meeting and because the pandemic situation they decided to take the challenge in May, and it worked *so well*, which an incredible increase of participation (and policy proposal that reached consensus and other that didn’t reached it), that we will have a *new* on-line policy meeting by middle of august. And of course, there will be a new on-line policy meeting again in October, because the in-person meeting in Bolivia has been cancelled as well because the pandemic.
And of course, all the elections process (not just for the PDP), that LACNIC is doing are on-line (board, committees, etc.).
Believe me when I say I perfectly understand Africans, the same I understand every other different culture.
Regards,
Jordi

Dear Jodi,
While your rebuke is hard to swallow, it is a welcome antidote to fear of failure and pessimism.
A quick scan of the replies on various topics in the list archives reveals a plethora of technical expertise and real world experience.
My humble request is that we (resource holders, well wishers, silent members et cetera) look at the topic as a challenge that needs to be overcome rather than taking ?for' or ?against? positions.
As some have pointed out, others have made it work, why not us ?
Regards,
Murungi Daniel

While your rebuke is hard to swallow, it is a welcome antidote to fear of failure and pessimism.
A quick scan of the replies on various topics in the list archives reveals a plethora of technical expertise and real world experience.
My humble request is that we (resource holders, well wishers, silent members et cetera) look at the topic as a challenge that needs to be overcome rather than taking ?for' or ?against? positions.
As some have pointed out, others have made it work, why not us ?
