[rpd] RPD Digest, Vol 165, Issue 16

Hi Daniel Yakmut,

The best way to refocus and be more effective is for cochairs to simply show which section of the CoC Noah violated.

We all need to know and learn from it.

Dear Murungi "my namesake as we say in my village",

Your statement below is clearly one of the challenges in our community, and i strongly agree that we could've and should do better on looking at policy proposals critically and how it impacts us in the future. However, the unnecessary diversions can easily remove our focus on real matter "Policies".

I agree we need to re-focus and agree to disagree.

"I am of the view that all the scandals and dodgy resource assignments (plus the policies that support them) which plague AFRINIC are due to the fact that we as community members did not actively question the actions and decisions made by AFRINIC management. Plus many of us did not fully understand nor take time to scrutinize policy proposals from members and their future impact. Thus, we all fell short of our responsibility as stewards of the IP resources dear to us."

Simply,

Daniel

Dear Emem,

You have made strong baseless accusations against me on a public forum. I write to address them.

I did not choose to be active on this list out of boredom and neither is it because I have nothing else to do. I don’t know you or most of the people on this list personally. So for you and others to accuse me of plotting personal attacks on members without clearly specifying supporting statements is not only slanderous but a cause for concern.

This list is for discussion of all matters related to governance and assignment of IP address on the African continent. These discussions, provide the building blocks for the policies which govern IP resource usage and assignment.

All my replies to any topic on this list are in response to what has been posted by members. When I ask a question (as is my right), it is always in response to a statement made by a community member.

Additionally, IMHO, yourself and a couple of others continue to use the word chaos without justification. I believe this is unnecessary gas lighting and should be stopped immediately.

I am of the view that all the scandals and dodgy resource assignments (plus the policies that support them) which plague AFRINIC are due to the fact that we as community members did not actively question the actions and decisions made by AFRINIC management. Plus many of us did not fully understand nor take time to scrutinize policy proposals from members and their future impact. Thus, we all fell short of our responsibility as stewards of the IP resources dear to us.

In closing, when I or any other member asks for clarification on a decision taken by AFRINIC management or on a statement made in reply to a post (from any member), a timely and concise response should be provided. Not deflections and accusations of inciting chaos and personal attacks.

Regards,
Daniel

We are fully in support of the Co-chair's decision cos it's imperative to restore sanctity in this mailing list. Like he said, we want a stable AFRINIC not one with chaos and disorderliness.

Dear Abdulkarim,

You were disruptive by trying to prevent the discussions to ever happen or happen on rpd.

The bad actions and examples shall be allowed to be called out strongly.

Community ignored your rant and kept discussions going without cochairs and made progress.

The community does not elect cochairs to censor discussions while chosing which topics to be discussed on rpd list.

While enforcing CoC is part of your role, it does not prescribe what I said above. In fact, you have so far not been able to provide an official reason for censorship of posts by Noah, a senior member of this community

Community elected cochairs are expected to be neutral and mainly organize and moderate discussions around the PDP. This is one more question about your neutrality

As we kept saying, a well organized and structured discussion style would prevent many deviations and encourage more participation.

Cultural and linguistic diversities plus different levels of expertise, which all make the beauty of our community, have to be well exploited for the good.

Many people feel frustrated and under attack with responses from others because of the differences in the understandings.

Marcus

Dear Marcus,
Yes, I agree that the follow-up discussion was useful and am sure you would agree with us that it became useful when no one felt under attack.
Its that type of discussions that the code of conduct we all signed up to permits. We were never disruptive maybe you meant constructive as we were only doing the job the community elected us to do.
