[rpd] Appeal on AFPUB-2016-V4-001-DRAFT-07 Softlanding policy

Wow…

I have to say – this reply shocks and confounds me, and I find to be deeply saddening.

Is this how it is going to go? Process is followed – a legitimate appeal is lodged – the appeal (rightfully) goes a particular way because of what is clear evidence on the list of strong opposition which flies in the face of consensus – and the response is to play an “imperialist” card.

Who exactly are these imperialists – and what is your definition of an imperialist? If you wish to make such blatantly inflammatory statements – I would like to see if you are man enough to stand by your words and explain EXACTLY what you mean. I point out that the PDP process and all that it is was ratified by this community as a whole – not by some mythical imperialists - that process has now been followed – and because you do not like the outcome of the process that was defined by the community you choose to attack what is defined by the process that was developed bottom up in Africa?

Can I make a suggestion – perhaps rather than blaming everyone else for your woes and the fact that what you wanted did not happen, maybe you should look to yourself and ask why you could not convince those of us who disagree with the policy because of its content that it was the right move for the industry. Maybe you should look to yourself and ask if sending messages like this endear you to anyone and if it will ever help your case.

Passing policy is about convincing others that the policy is in the communities best interests – and there are large segments of this community that strongly believe that this policy runs contrary to the interests of the industry – and I assure you – messages like this do not help the case – rather all they do is serve to prove the point that for some, policy is not about what is good for the industry, it is about some strange political agenda based on stereotyping entire segments of the population because of insecurities on the part of the people doing the stereotyping.

If your motivation is the pass policy to stick it to the so called imperialists – that will not get policy passed. If your motivation is to pass policy for the good of the industry – lobby for it – convince people you have a solid case – if you can’t do that – the policy should not pass – and will not – as is demonstrated in this case.

Andrew
