I did not refer to day-to-day operations of a RIR. I highlighted
government interference in an ISP operation.

Do you support a national internet filtering system in Mauritius and
other African countries? Protecting children from harmful content is
usually the argument by proponents of a national internet filtering system.

A minister tried to serve a gagging order [1] to prevent a newspaper
from publishing information about a cover-up. The supreme court rejected
the minister's request. A minister may believe the content is illegal
but that is not correct.

I quote the authors of the anti-shutdown proposal:

« Over the last few years we have seen more and more governments
shutting down the free and open access to the internet in order to push
political and other agendas. These shutdowns have been shown to cause
economic damage and hurt the citizens of the affected countries. »

The shutdowns affect the local economy. Furthermore, it affects jobs in
the countries if it's easier to host outside Africa given the risk of
the government shutting down open and free access to the internet.

I quote from thecitizen.co.tz [2]:

« The statement further said that the arrest extends the “steady and
worrying deterioration in media freedom and Internet freedom” since
President John Magufuli took office over a year ago. »

Are you against media and internet freedom?

Regards,

Ish Sookun
