If that were what happened, I could see how someone could draw that conclusion.  However, that's not what happened.  The Nortel bankruptcy court did not sell address space, it sold a specified transfer.  That is, if Microsoft was able to justify the need for the space (which they did), they could transfer Nortel's right to use the space to themselves, rather than it going back into the general allocation pool. 

So yes, there's an asset, in the sense that the right to use the space is an asset, but the asset is not the address space, which is just integers.  If someone thinks integers are property, I have an infinity of them for sale.  :-)
