Hi all, Board and NomCom,

Before sending this email, I’ve read the discussion in ZANOG, just to make sure about doing a better judgment of the situation. I also recall that we had the same discussion a few days ago in the RPD list.

I think it is very clear that one of the candidates is getting support from an organization for a campaign to promote him in a very unethical, immoral, and in many jurisdictions against the law, because the usage of personal data. Further to that, it is clear to me that the usage of the AFRINIC mailings list and whois is against the purpose.

I think it is absolutely mandatory at this point that the candidate in question is disqualified, because we can’t accept Board candidate that is ignoring the basic rules of the community. That will be an unacceptable disgrace for the global Internet community.

I hope the Board and the NomCom can immediately respond to this.

Note that I’m not for or against any candidate, neither have personal pros or cons against any of them, but as I can read in the list, it seems clear that the candidate taking part of this campaign has not even got the right knowledge about the PDP, RSA, ICP-2, bylaws and in general how the community works. So, it is a good candidate?

For full disclosure, I not an AFRINIC member, however, I’m always for the best in the interest of AFRINIC and in general the Internet community and the protection of personal data, so I feel that it is a ignominy against all us (and not just the members), if we allow this to keep going on.

Regards,

Jordi

Friends, please be alert as to the below, in case any of you have received or may receive this from this person or any of their associates.

This is probably one of the most important elections in AFRINIC's history. So it is vital that you are very well informed before you cast your vote, as your vote will have an impact on the future of the Internet in Africa, as well as the future of your business/employment in Africa.

Similarly, please do cast your votes, so that your voices - and will - may be heard.

There is an ongoing discussion about this on ZANOG. I'd recommend having sniff (or better yet, subscribing and participating) to get some context as to what is going on:

Please can these unsolicited requests be stopped. This is very unprofessional and annoying to say the least. AFRINIC team please can you investigate how my personal contact details were obtained.

Kind Regards

Michele
