[Community-Discuss] warning/question about hotel reservation for the next AfriNIC 29 meeting is it fake ?

Hi Felix,

After my public complain in the list I got a confirmation. I’m sure somebody from AfriNIC talked to the hotel … so for me the issue is sorted out.

However, I must say that this is not a very nice response from any hotel. I travel a lot since 2001 I never got a similar situation where you book a hotel in their own web page, pay for it (up-front payment), get the payment confirmation, but not the room booking confirmation. Wait for a few days, and nothing happens, try to contact them by email and other means (including phone numbers blocked by skype!), and no answer. Contact the company issuing the credit card payment and also no answer.

May be the service is excellent in the hotel, but they should change the way they manage the reservations. At the end is something that most of the time is automated, no need for a “personal” email!

And by the way, the reservation and the web page support English, but the confirmation that I got after 10 days is only in French. I can read it, but is not nice for many other participants that may not be able to use French, especially if you have an English version of the web page.

I’ve not doubt on the quality of the hotels, but as said, they should do something about the reservation system. There are many scams in Internet and they should not act in such way that anyone reserving a room can thing something is wrong!

Regards,

Jordi

Dear Jordi,

I trust you are keeping well. We note your email on the AFRINIC community mailing list on the AFRINIC-29 reservation you made at Diar Lemdina in Hammamet. We are following this up with the hotel representatives and we will get back to you shortly with your reservation details.

However, we wish to assure you that the Medina Hotel Group is one of the largest hotel group in Tunisia operating one 5-star hotel and two 4-star hotels in Hammamet which we have visited, stayed in, certified and recommended after a one week reconnaissance study of Hammamet business hotels. For more information about the group please visit http://www.medina.com.tn.

Should you have any subsequent issues regarding AFRINIC-29 Public Policy Meeting please do not hesitate to contact the meeting organising team at comms at afrinic.net or contact me personally. This way we will promptly address your issue and direct it to the right authorities to address it.

Kind Regards,

Felix Otiato,
