*World IPv6 Launch, 6 June 2012*

*Mauritius, 6 June 2012 - *AFRINIChosted a regional conference of major
Internet players across Africa on the future of the Internet on IPv6.
Participants in the conversation were: Adiel Akplogan -- Chief Executive
Officer, AFRINIC, Dr. Dawit Bekele -- Regional Bureau Director for
Africa Internet Society, Mme Ndéye Maimouna Diop Diagne -- Chair,
AFRINIC and ICT Director, Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and ICT,
Republic of Senegal, Hisham Ibrahim -- IPv6 Manager -- AFRINIC, Trilok
Dabeesing - Director of IT, Information and Communication Technologies
Authority, Republic of Mauritius, and Fiona Asonga - Chief Executive
Officer, Telecommunications Service Providers Association of Kenya/
Kenya Internet Exchange Point. Other participants came from ISOC
chapters in Africa, and the Internet community in Africa.

The meeting heard that the launch of IPv6 on 6 June 2012 represents a
major milestone in the development of the Internet. The meeting agreed
that IPv6 represents the future of the Internet, and that businesses,
equipment vendors, Internet service providers, and governments in Africa
ought to work together to ensure IPv6 is successfully deployed in the
region.

"/The //future of the Internet depends on the ability to connect people
in our region/," said Adiel Akplogan. "/We cannot think about the future
of internet without IPv6. The launch of the IPv6 is a major milestone
but also the start of a new journey to the future of the Internet. We
cannot promote Internet develop without IPv6/."

Dr. Dawit Bekele said IPv6 is now part of regular business, and asked
stakeholders and the Internet community to play a greater role in
ensuring effective deployment of the new Internet Protocol in Africa.
