SUMMARY

his week, the Internet Corporation of Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) has approved plans for the first-ever changing of the cryptographic key that helps protect the Domain Name System (DNS).

At The third ASEAN Ministerial Conference on Cybersecurity, ASEAN Ministers noted that Singapore will propose a mechanism to enhance ASEAN cyber coordination which will be tabled to ASEAN Leaders for consideration. The AMCC agreed that, while the proposal for an ASEAN cybersecurity mechanism is being considered, the AMCC should continue to serve as the interim and non-formal ASEAN platform for cybersecurity.

At the 3rd China-ASEAN Information Harbor Forum, High-level dialogues were held on a string of topics, including the establishment of five cooperation platforms between China and ASEAN countries for network infrastructure.

The U.S. Department of Defense this week released its 2018 cyber strategy, which outlines how the organization plans on implementing the country’s national security and defense strategies in cyberspace.

The World Economic Forum, the International Organization for Public-Private Cooperation, announced it will bring governments, businesses, start-ups and civil society together to co-design guidelines to empower governments to responsibly deploy and design AI technology for the benefit of citizens.

On digital economy, China will invest 100 billion yuan (about 14.6 billion U.S. dollars) for developing the digital economy in the next five years. The investments will go to projects on big data, internet of things (IoT), cloud computing, smart cities and the digital Silk Road, according to an agreement signed by China Development Bank and the National Development and Reform Commission at the International Conference on Digital Economy and Digital Silk Road that opened Tuesday.

On data protection, Vijay Shekhar Sharma-owned fintech major Paytm has alleged that payments platform Google Play is violating guidelines by sharing data with its group companies and third parties, and also using it for advertising purposes.

On infrastructure, for the first time in recent Internet history, a new submarine cable carrying live traffic across the South Atlantic was activated, directly connecting South America to Sub-Saharan Africa.
