While this is good news for registrars everywhere bear in mind that a LOT of the registries still have an insurance requirement.

This a great news! Especially for prospective registrars from Africa. Now that we have this barrier removed, I hope we will soon reach the number of 25 (MIG Works, Addis Ababa 2013) ICANN Accredited Registrars in Africa…

This may be of interest for African registrars!

In case you haven’t seen the announcement yet, I just wanted to alert you that the Board waived the RAA insurance requirement ,https://www.icann.org/news/blog/icann-waives-registrar-insurance-requirement-levels-playing-field-for-registrars-globally. This is being referred to the GNSO Council so there might be more work on this topic, but for the time being the insurance requirement is waived for all registrars.
