Hi everyone - Today we have issued a press release highlighting that Mauritania's first Internet Exchange Point (IXP) was successfully launched on 27 November 2015, in Nouakchott, Mauritania. The IXP was established with the support of the African Internet Exchange System (AXIS), a project of the African Union implemented by the Internet Society, which aims to route 80% of Internet traffic in Africa locally by 2020. The Internet Society's Interconnection and Traffic Exchange programme has been actively supporting the development of IXPs to increase cost-effective Internet interconnection environments in emerging economies, furthering the organization's mission of promoting the development, evolution, and use of the Internet for the benefit of people throughout the world.
