There is no where to hide or an absolute protection of anything once you are on the Internet. It is just a matter of Good Will.... Is it the reason the words " Intenet Protocol" are used in the technology...?
Well a messenger can read you mail and a Postman can delay, read or cause your letter to get lost... Taking that as an old example ...anything can happen to data and voice if one wishes...
Aluta continua!!

Merkel's concerns are centered more on data security and protection,
those are key words that revolved around her concerns.

Although a big challenge, those concerns are most addressed through
technology. Germany seems to understand the magnitude of the problem
and how tricky it is to solve, that is why they had tried to negotiate
unsuccessfully for a "no spy" agreement with US. It is very clear that
an Euro-based network would still not be as secure as Germany expects.
