Dear Yassin, Baudouin and Barrack!
Thanks for the feedback on the questionnaires. Your different points
suggest there is a flaw in the way we communicate within this African Icann
community! If the minutes of the African meetings in Prague were circulated
on the different lists, you probably would have noticed there is no
exclusion whatesoever,nor any highjacking on representing Africa.
I then hope the organizers of the 'African meetings at ICANN 44 in Prague
will provide minutes and other detailed information.Btw, a special list was
set up during the conference and I am copying this to it..
I can only state that African participants to Icann were invited to a
meeting with Icann Board and the incoming CEO. Those who could make it to
the meeting did it, and were informed by the new CEO that he is keen to
assist, and that an Africa specific strategy was needed by Next Icann
meeting in Toronto in October. Participants then resolved to form a working
group and three people were unanimously nominated..Tarek, Nii and
myself..Then considerations on gender balance as well as regional
representation were floated..with the addition of Maimouna Diop and Palesa
Legoze..and still waiting for regional representatives to join..
But these are our local politics I believe and meanwhile, the group has to
deliver a draft Icann Africa Strategy by October. Hence the questionnaires.
Additional means for collecting community expressions and needs including a
web based survey and Mobile telephony,are being contemplated .Also, the
questionnaires will be translated into french to provide further outreach
and ease to our non English speaking community.
I hope I have clarified and have given you additional reasons for filling
out the questionnaires.
