[AfrICANN-discuss] Special tribute to Nii Quaynor for the JonPostel Award 2007

[Mouhamet Diop]

Special tribute to an African Warrior !!

Allaji Nii ,

I'm not going to congratulate you !!! Because you deserve it !!

You even don't know why you are always running , fighting to give to Africa
a voice on the panel of the worldwide continent, of the Information Society
??? Maybe one day I will understand !! But for sure we are running for
something (a person, an idea, a project, a dream, etc.) !

It is almost over 10 years we met, and I always see in the man a
panafricanist, someone who love his country, his continent and very kind.

I know also that nobody is perfect , you are not !! but you introduce in
our heart something really important , you prouve us by being the first
African on the Board of ICANN, that we, African need to be heard and we have
our place in that truly global bottom up Internet Coordination Team that is
ICANN !

And you did well.

We will always find friendship , respect even from people who don't like you
! But who cares ?? Only useless people don't have enemies !!

All life is a cycle of up and down, maybe on the business level you face
some realities , difficulties but what make you special is all that energy
you dedicated to the recognition of Africa and of its expertise !

And on that level, you were a champion, a leader , a manager , and the
results were there : Afrinic is here, Afnog is a reality , and more and more
!!!

You were also one of the first to set up local DNS management in Africa. And
we were one of the founders of Afrinic, that beautiful institution coming
from the battle of over 8 years, we African Insitutions and individuals are
all proud of It !!

The John Postel award , you deserve it on behalf of all African pioneers and
geeks !! And you are a good and effective and legitimate ambassador of
Africa in that Internet World.

Don't expect to get any more awards, this one represent the recognition of
all Internet users, geeks, etc...the whole technical comminuty !

Good luck and all the best is coming !!!

Mouhamet Diop

African Internet Citizen !
