I don't believe the OIF is being attacked. I believe supporting
people to come to AFRINIC meetings is very noble regardless of who
is providing the support. The OIF support is however indirect to
AFRINIC - nothing wrong with that. Its people that are financially
supported to get to the meeting. One assumes though that there may
be conditions or an expectation regarding that financial support? I
don't know.
For example - I have personally been financially supported by
AFRINIC in my role as a Board Member to attend AFRINIC meetings - in
exchange for my time and input (etc) in Board Meetings.
Similar is true for anyone that AFRINIC sponsors, whether Staff, PDP
Co-Chairs or even Fellows - something is expected in return.
When my company sent me - I was there representing their interests.
I totally agree with you, the resources being French speaking people
from Africa to attend these meetings. Commendable.
Has the OIF also sponsored people from non-French speaking countries

Anyone ever sponsored from a Southern African country by OIF? (I'm

maybe organisations such as

That would be nice but there are I think only three Portuguese
countries out of the 56 (or so) African countries. Not sure if
this would make financial sense as the budget is tight.
There are more Arabic speaking countries but I think most Arabic
speakers that are involved with Internet also speak either French

I also applaud AFRINIC for posting some of the recent
communications in Arabic. I have some personal experience in
running a website in all four languages and Arabic was technically
the most challenging. I assume there was an Arabic language
translation channel in Tunisia?
