            so bluntly an organisation that has supported AfriNIC over

    I don't believe the OIF is being attacked. I believe supporting
    people to come to AFRINIC meetings is very noble regardless of who
    is providing the support. The OIF support is however indirect to
    AFRINIC - nothing wrong with that. Its people that are financially
    supported to get to the meeting. One assumes though that there may
    be conditions or an expectation regarding that financial support? I
    don't know. <br>
    For example - I have personally been financially supported by
    AFRINIC in my role as a Board Member to attend AFRINIC meetings - in
    exchange for my time and input (etc) in Board Meetings.<br>
    Similar is true for anyone that AFRINIC sponsors, whether Staff, PDP
    Co-Chairs or even Fellows - something is expected in return.<br>
    When my company sent me - I was there representing their interests.<br>

    Has the OIF also sponsored people from non-French speaking countries
    to also attend? If so, any idea of the ratio?<br>
    Anyone ever sponsored from a Southern African country by OIF? (I'm
    curious)<br>
    If there are no non-French speaking folk - that's also fine.  Again
    - I don't know.<br>

            still have room for progress, but I think we are on the
            right path; I
            was delighted to see an announcement posted a couple of days
            ago with an Arabic
            version of it. Next steps would be to provide versions of
            the website in Arabic
            and Portuguese as well  and to have interpretation in these
            languages too
            in our meetings. That requires more resources for sure, but
            maybe organisations such as
            the Arab League could support.</span></p>

    <p>That would be nice but there are I think only three Portuguese
      countries out of the 56 (or so) African countries. Not sure if
      this would make financial sense as the budget is tight.<br>
      There are more Arabic speaking countries but I think most Arabic
      speakers that are involved with Internet also speak either French
      or English.<br>
      I also applaud AFRINIC for posting some of the recent
      communications in Arabic. I have some personal experience in
      running a website in all four languages and Arabic was technically
      the most challenging. I assume there was an Arabic language
      translation channel in Tunisia?<br>

                <p class="MsoNormal">Firstly – I have seen NO respect
                  from the OIF delegates for anything outside of their
                  group.  Secondly – the African Continent is far from
                  than just French – and I have a lot of good French
                  friends – I have no problem with the French – I do
                  have a problem with AFRINIC having an MoU with an
                  organization that explicitly promotes the interests of
                  one demographic.  In fact I question if this does not
                  represent a very subtle form of internet colonialism.</p>
                <p class="MsoNormal"> </p>
                <p class="MsoNormal">So no – you will get no respect or
                  gratitude for money – when the actions of the OIF and
                  its delegates at AFRINIC promote unity rather than
                  division – and do – as per the OIF’s website – respect
                  that the continent is made up of a diverse population
                  of English, French, Arabic, Portuguese, Swahili, and
                  countless more – and the delegates are not banded
                  together to reject anything and everything that is not
                  of their making – then maybe – I will have some
                  gratitutde.  But rest assured – my respect – is earned
                  by PEOPLE who have shown their competence,
                  irrespective of language, race, creed, religion, skin
                  color or anything else – it is not earned by flying
                  lots of people to meetings to push a specific
                  linguistic agenda.</p>
