It came to my attention on Friday 30 November 2018 that there are problems with file attachments in AFRINIC’s records. Since then, I have instituted an investigation. I can report some preliminary results.

1. In the “Support requests” part of the MyAfrinic portal, the file download interface is not working correctly. The underlying data in the ticketing system is still present, and we will correct the problem in MyAfrinic.

2. In the ticketing system, many file attachments from the year 2009 and earlier cannot be opened. The files can be downloaded from the ticketing system, and the files appear to contain reasonable contents when viewed in a “hexdump” format, but the files cannot
be opened by the relevant applications. We have not found similar problems with attachments from 2010 and later. We are still investigating.

Regards,

Alan Barrett
CEO, AFRINIC
