<p>When I first became a Board Member of AFRINIC eighth or so years
ago, there was a young lady from Kenya who also joined. She was
fresh out of University and, as only two people volunteered for
East Africa, and there were two places to fill, she got on. Never
came to a meeting and met her only once at ICANN in Kenya.<br>
The Board eventually discarded her.<br>
Should NomCom have declined her and left a vacancy - probably not.<br></p></blockquote><div><br></div><div>definitely yes. if you award a seat to the person who happens to be available, don't be surprised at the result. sometime, it turns out quite good (e.g. some PDP co-chairs of recence)</div><div> </div><blockquote class="gmail_quote" style="margin:0px 0px 0px 0.8ex;border-left:1px solid rgb(204,204,204);padding-left:1ex"><p>
Would that happen today - hope not.<br></p></blockquote><div><br></div><div>and yet you have a revolve door of board member. perhap there need to be term limit for board member. and perhap nomcom need more resource and time to actually go out recrut good candidat.</div><div> </div><blockquote class="gmail_quote" style="margin:0px 0px 0px 0.8ex;border-left:1px solid rgb(204,204,204);padding-left:1ex"><p>

<p>Generally speaking though, it takes a while to acquire Board,
Management and Executive experience, which implies some sort of
time (a number of years) has passed.</p></blockquote><div><br></div><div>generally correct.</div><div><br></div><div> </div><blockquote class="gmail_quote" style="margin:0px 0px 0px 0.8ex;border-left:1px solid rgb(204,204,204);padding-left:1ex">
<p>I don't think I want to see old (aged) people on the board either
- but age is a relative thing (65 is no longer quite so "old" to
me :)<br></p></blockquote><div><br></div><div>i borrow your phrase from last week: Bovine Excrement! ---- i think i prefer the real word in english.</div><div> </div><blockquote class="gmail_quote" style="margin:0px 0px 0px 0.8ex;border-left:1px solid rgb(204,204,204);padding-left:1ex"><p>

Some technical people on the Board does help - as this is a
Technical Company. It also makes sense that the Directors generally
understand the Business. Adiel also used me as a guinea pig for a
number of technical things - e.g. E-Voting. <br></blockquote><div><br></div><div><br></div><div>that just a bonus. but to be faire, if AFRINIC get into a situation where it business model must change bigly to say along line of so entreprise software, when that time come, technical skill in that area may be good thing to have on board. </div></div><br><br><br clear="all"><div><br></div>-- <br><div class="gmail_signature">Borg le Chevalier<br>___________________________________<br>"Common sense is what tells us the world is flat" </div>
