[rpd] Forum for policy discussions?

The digest system certainly is a part of the problem but with low volume
communication and an occasional snafu resulting in a topic change to "RDP
Digest xyz" isn't the biggest issue in doing things sensibly. Moreover,
unfortunately, the digesting itself is pretty irregular.
I've got a little copilot script for the "HTML attachment was scrubbed ...'
that happens from time to time.

If the replying to list problem was the only cause of annoyance from this
list I'd happily argue to abolish the ability to subscribe on digest and
require people to receive the posts to the list as individual emails.
However for me personally - and setting up some mail sorting approach is
what I would do if that was the case that digests are switched off and a
high volume of sludge could come through - the ability to get a digest to
gander at and if the discussion entices me to go to the archive is useful.
I fear that any change would be gamed in one way or another by somebody
looking for a way to be irritating. Equally moving off an email centred
approach would create a whole new pool of ways to create a mess.
The biggest thing I'd like is for the digest to be at a consistent time and
frequency if a user subscribes to the digest.

Above all though with a tiny handful of exceptions I think it is simply a
lot healthier to assume that everybody posting on this list are going to
snafu (reply to a digest, mangle quoting of text, demonstrate the pitfalls
of generative AI etc ...) from time to time without intending to be total
malcontents.
Personally I'd like it if a web interface was bolted onto the archive and
allows me to reply to a given mail to the list in that interface. This has
been a norm in mailing lists in the last decade.
What I am strongly opposed to though would be abandoning standard warts and
all mailing list approach.

If I am not mistaken though the Mailman 2 software in use is older than
half of the people reading this mailing list. Now I am not a proponent of
changing for change sake and miss my OS/2 desktop but I do wonder if the
communications infrastructure isn't due for a look over.
