Dear PDWG Members,
REFLECTION AND RENEWAL IN THE PDWG
The PDWG is central to AfriNIC’s PDP, yet its effectiveness has declined due to breakdown in constructive dialogue. As we move forward, we must reflect on what went wrong – both in our processes and group dynamics – and how we can rebuild a respectful, inclusive, and professional environment fit for building consensus on policies.
Unfortunately, current discussions remain superficial, failing to address the root causes of the breakdown. This approach leaves deeper wounds untreated and risks repeating past mistakes.
Let us commit to genuine reflection and impartial review, so we can transform the PDWG into a resilient, transparent, and collaborative platform it was meant to be.
Warm regards,
Marcus

It’s great to see discussion back on the list, a good sign that the community spirit is still strong. I agree with Owen. What really matters is that the feedback loop stays open, clear, and timely.
On Ben’s point, participation will grow if we make the PDP more inclusive and relevant. We should bring in people from IXPs, NRENs, academia, civil society, and sectors shaping Africa’s digital economy. Linking policy work to that wider digital transformation agenda will draw new energy and perspectives.
Let’s keep it going.
Best,
Omo
“More inclusive” by offering a pleasant, productive PDP to the expected standards, right ?
Policy discussions and meetings have always been open to anyone to join and participate. No one has been prevented from participating in pdp, except perhaps our behaviours may have discouraged, scared away many people in our diverse and fragile ecosystem.
The board made a key prerequisite to resumption of PDP as below:
"A key prerequisite will be to ensure that all community mailing lists maintain an atmosphere of civility and constructive engagement."
Governments are more attentive now, watching and assessing us.
It shouldn't be like before thanks for our collective efforts.
“More relevant” yes towards policy making for Number resources management, but without turning the PDP into an IG forum? Community, members, board and staff should make sure that policies we discuss and approve serve the interests AFRICA and not private, personal interests.
Cheers,
-
Grégoire
