Just look at the reports from success by the other RIRs, it is self-proving that adds a lot of value and reduces the amount of workload at the RIR and the LIRs.

It also avoids gross filtering of bigger prefixes, as you can reduce the abuse footprint if the abuse-mailbox is working. This is a global benefit for the Global community.

Hi Jordi,

I am well-aware of this but thanks for your advice anyway. I don't see the extra benefits that can be brought by an extra mandatory abuse-mailbox. If the operators prefer to use forms for reports as a means of abuse, that's their choice and freedom to do so. There is no extra value added for having the abuse-mailbox.

Hi Rachel,

Again, please, read the policy text. Is not taking a position on what is and what not abuse. See the videos with the presentations and email archive. It has been explained over and over.

Hi all,

How can AFRINIC force any member to reply to the « abuse » if AFRINIC cannot determine what is considered an abuse and what is not? Especially that the definition of a criminal/legal activity differs from one jurisdiction to another… It is up to the member to define what they think is acceptable in their network
operation and how they choose to react to it, so I’m not sure I get what value this policy adds exactly.

Greetings!

Dear PDWG,

This proposal needs to go back to discussion for the next PPM since the concerns are still the same and remain unsolved.

Afrinic shouldn’t be the one deciding how network holders manage their abuse mailbox. Each one has the right to determine what to reply to and what to ignore and based on that, the whole purpose of this policy is pointless especially if AFRINIC cannot determine what is considered an abuse and what is not.

Dear All,

Handling the issue of abuse has been an ISSUE itself that the AFRINIC organization has found difficult to solve since the start.
Without overstepping or being considered intrusive, they could get members to publish their mailbox instead of consistently adopting and implementing unnecessary. unworthy and wasteful policies.
On the other hand, there is an alternative, which by simply publishing the mailboxes of their members while being careful and mindful of being regarded as intrusive to members. The General Abuse Contact Policy will present this result and effect.
