[rpd] unsolicited canvassing

Hi Lucilla,

 

Any lawyer will tell you that *having an email, phone, etc. in public* (or any other personal data) doesn’t entitle you to use it unless there is a previous and explicit consent, even less for trying to convince someone to vote for “a” or “b”.

 

For a good reason, collecting emails from Internet, mailing lists, etc., it is a crime in many jurisdictions, but also against the Code of Conduct. I don’t know if that has been made explicit in AFRINIC, but in any case, it is not right.

 

I would agree with you in the fact that the email has been forwarded to the list without your consent, however, I think that we could apply here this “who robs a thief has 100 years of forgiveness”.

I've sent an email to a public email address available on a public website. I would agree with you if I had sent it to a private email address. But this is not the case.
