[rpd] JUST FOR FUN!

Hi Seun,

Remember that I’ve said in a previous email that I’ve no sense of humor …

I can write policy proposals, Internet Drafts, deploy IPv6, I can even dance (very badly), but humor is definitively my weak point!

Now, if you’re referring to the infamous messages and attacks in the different list, the folks that use other emails because they are cowards to come to the mic to speak, the lack of preparation of the NomCom and different elections, even the lack of preparation of the AGMM to every possible contingency, and this repeating meeting to meeting … this is only a sign of disunified community, egos and cowardice.

It looks fun, but actually is not. If is not that what you’re referring to, please let me know the details, as said I’m a perfect idiot in terms of humor.

Regards,

Jordi

Clarification: This secret WG thing is a funny thing that exist only in RIPE.

SO: I guess you may not have been paying attention at AFRINIC meetings.

To make it clear is just for fun, nothing serious, so it doesn't exist! However, it is part of the "last" bit of the plenary in every RIPE meeting, and of course, I can't show it because is not recorded, it doesn't exist at all.

We should make clear that is not for real, otherwise participants my believe that we are doing policies under the table or something worst!

I guess Mark is referring to that one?

I think only once it filtered out to the media :-)

You can find other versions googling for "The day the routers died"

Even if it doesn't exist, may be some humorous folks in Afrinic want to start it? I'm not good in humor so unfortunately don't count on me for this. It requires some preparation time, but only takes 10 minutes at the closing plenary.

If you want an example of a policy proposal that I submitted to that secret WG in the last RIPE meeting see below my signature. Unfortunately, you are missing the funniest part which was the presentation of this itself in the non-existing secret working group meeting!

Jordi

Global Policy Proposal: Authors Policy Violation

Justification:

Recently some authors are writing too many policy proposals and in several RIRs, and community doesn’t have sufficient time for debating them.

Even if this may be considered good, not everybody is happy.

So, we need to limit the number of policy proposals per author, unless they are so relevant that are being discussed in several RIRs.

We also need to ensure that authors are collaborative in the discussions, and responding correctly and timely.

Policy text:

Policy proposal authors are only allowed to submit a maximum of 6 proposals per year, unless they are submitted to a minimum of 3 RIRs

Authors are required to respond to every email in the relevant policy list, within a maximum of 6 minutes, at least 18 hours per day, no matter their timezone. Rate limiting will be applied in case the response is not with appropriate in-line quoting.

No more than 66 proposals allowed in 6 years, unless there is a commitment for sending additional 66 proposals among all a minimum of 3 RIRs.

Violation of this policy is a policy violation, punished with the prohibition of participating in the following 6 RIR meetings.

Pros:
a) The mailing list may become too quiet in case of violation.

Cons:
a) We could enjoy more time the bars, socials and cities where the meetings are being held.
b) We may not have more policy authors and discussions (or this is a pro?).

Implementation: Immediate

I totally agree with you Jordi. The only exception to this would be any
"secret working group" presentations - which anyway should be for
    amusement purposes only.

Actually, during the presentation of this report, it was explicitly said that the slides will be publish.
