Dear AfriNIC Community,
Alsalam Alikom (?????? ?????)
I would like to thanks the AFRINIC Community for giving me the opportunity
to serve as PDWG Co-chair since the AfriNIC meeting held on November 2015.
Since that, we engaged in fruitful discussions to further enhance the way
AFRINIC manage Internet resources. Through those discussions, we sometimes
reached consensus to move with the policy proposal forward to ratification,
while for other proposals the community prefer to keep the status quo
policies. We experienced particular circumstances were the view of the
community is not clear and it?s so difficult to make a decision to satisfy
all views. However, we strongly believe in the PDP process itself to
approve the most needed proposals.
At this stage I would like leave the position as Co-Chair and engage more
in policy development and discussion. I believe the circulation of the
Co-Chair position is so healthy to the process. I believe also this is the
perfect time to bring new chair, so the handover will be smooth while there
is an experience chair (My Current Co-chair) in place for another year, and
my term will be completed normally during the next meeting in May 2018.
I would like to thank Seun Ojedeji, Adewole Ajao, and Ernest Byaruhanga and
the AFRINIC staff and the community at large for the support I received
during my tenure, and I commit to continue server the community in any
other tasks may assigned to me.
Best Regards,
Dr. Sami Salih | Assistant Professor

I understand that serving as PDWG co-Chair has not been an easy job
as I have seen the discussions from the floor and on the mailing
list. I would like to thank you for the volunteer work and your
responsiveness.

Modulo one particularly bad call, I?d agree.
I understand that the job isn?t a particularly easy one. It?s a job I?ve
done, albeit in an environment
where it?s not nearly as difficult. (This is one area where I will grant
those that claim that Africa
poses unique challenges.)
I am, despite all that has happened in recent history, sorry to see Sami
resign.
Nonetheless, I hope that future co-chairs can learn from this event and
realize that in a case where
you find it difficult to gauge rough consensus, perhaps the better part of
valor is to declare that what
consensus may exist is too rough to be called rough consensus.
In any case, Sami, this was never personal and I have tremendous gratitude
for your service and
respect for the tough job that you did for the community. I wish you the
best in your future
endeavors.
