Dear Policy Development Working Group,
It is with a lot of concern that I read a direct comment on this mailing list suggesting that (yet-to-be-heard) policies will be opposed solely based on their source(s). There is no point dwelling on this one example; I have observed several people here do the same either directly or indirectly.
I urge the entire community to please try as much as possible to remain objective under all circumstances.
Exercise cautious; yes. Pick proposals apart carefully to reveal their merits and demerits so that they can be improved or discarded; yes. Ask reasonable questions to better understand the proponents' motives; yes.
Opposing proposals because of the (perceived tendencies of the) person(s) that put them forward however, is not a good use of the time and resources that it costs the community to run this policy working group.
Anyone that has observed us over the last couple of months would know that such sentiments do exist and have led to a lot of time-wasting. Let us try to control our emotions and get back to the business of making good policies.
😊 Apologies for being emotional there myself. Have a productive week ahead, colleagues.
Dewole.
