[Scheduled] WHOIS Database major version upgrade
Scheduled for 31 August 2017 at 5:00PM UTC, expected to last 3 hours.
On 31 August, in the evening, between 21:00 and 24:00 Mauritius time, we'll be doing a major version increment of the AFRINIC WHOIS database.
During this 3 hour maintenance window, there will be approximately a 1 hour period where WHOIS web updates are unavailable, and mail updates will be delayed until after the upgrade.
WHOIS queries will remain available at all times.
This upgrade covers a number of improvements in memory usage, logging, bug-fixes and security of the database application. It also updates the AFRINIC WHOIS database for any new or changed business rules and policies.
In addition, it will also change the hashing used for storing password to bcrypt as default in future. And will deprecate older hashes for all new objects and future updates. Existing stored passwords will remain able to authenticate.
We are also introducing a feature that will protect person or role objects with an auto-generated maintainer, when not created initially with the optional maintainer, notifying the resource owner.
