Dear Colleagues,

A work about selection of board members. The bylaws call for at least one
board member from each of the five regions and no more than 5 members from
any one region. Board members are selected as follows: ASO (2), ccNSO (2),
GNSO (2), At Large (1), NomCom (8). This totals 15 members, the CEO is
appointed by the board bring the total number of voting directors to 16.
Currently there are two members of the board from the African Continent,
Mike Silber (ZA) selected by the ccNSO and Cherine Chalaby (EG) selected by
the NomCom. In the end there is means for persons from Africa to be selected
to the board, but the large hurdle continues to be one of viable, qualified
candidates being brought forward for consideration.

Dear Pierre,
Dear Waudo,

This is an interesting topic. It is clear that there is a need of more
outreach activities in the Africa continent to bring more Africans into
ICANN Ecosystem and naturally into ICANN'Board.
The ICANN At Large Advasory Committee launched a sub-committee on Outreach
recently and I'm the only representative of the Africa Region. I would be
happy to see much Africans joigning such committees or sub-committees. I
would like to take this opportunity to invite others persons on this list to
join and help make ICANN more open and understandable by Africans.

ICANN is mainly about numbers and names. Africa is already full and active
stakeholder of the "numbers part" of ICANN but It still a lot to do to make
African become full and active stakeholder of the "Names part" of ICANN.
If we work to develop the domain names industry in Africa and help Africans
understand the importance of domain names, they will naturally join ICANN
and apply for leadership's positions.

I strongly believe that the implementation the ICANN's Africa Strategy will
bring significant change. The recent launch of the ICANN's Speakers Bureau
will also be very helpful for the outreach work.

Best regards,
Victor Ndonnang.
ps. Pierre, can you please said more about the profile of participants of
the upcoming Multi-stakeholder Model and DNS Workshop.

Dear Waudo,

Thanks for this. Indeed, we should work around the outreach for the NOMCOM.
In fact, there were a few ideas on leadership development as regards ICANN
and you could help craft a project/mechanism for that matter.

We should discuss it further on; also, please note the forthcoming ICANN's
Event on the Multistakeholder model and the DNS workshop (Addis 5-8 March
2013) which would certainly be an opportune venue for taking actions.within
the Africa strategy..

Best regards

Thank you for your detailed plans and events for the coming 6 months Pierre.
If this fits in well we could leverage on these meetings to also outreach
about the Nom-Comm ICANN leadership positions this year, which include a
specific requirement for an African on the Board. Looking forward to further
communications with you on this subject.

Kind Regards,
Waudo Siganga

Dear all,

I hope this finds you well in the new year! My seasons greetings for a most
prosperous 2013 to all..

Kindly find attached for your information and dissemination in your
networks, an update on the Africa strategy.

Basically, we have a set of projects/activities which cover the rest of
FY13, ie, till June 2013; we plan to have more resources for the strategy as
of FY14 when new hires (area managers, ICANN Ambassadors,,) will certainly
occur.

I look forward to your support through this exercise.

Warm regards
!

Pierre
