Questionnaire number 2

African Strategy Working Groupp
August 2012.

Itr has been suggested that a physical presence of ICANN in Africa is important to improve
ICANN presence. To contribute in shaping how this is implemented please answer the following questions.

2 Name: CHEKEM Pierre

3 - Country: CAMEROON.

4 - Constituency: Non Partisan not for profit organisation.

5 - Should the presence be implemented by
-An office in Africa with staff and a work programme.

6 What are strenghts
African members working with ICANN. Good knowledge of future ITC development in Africa.

weaknesses
- No office in Africa.

Opportunities.
- Future ITC development and good markets opportunities.

7 - How could you address the needs by country, by sub region, language groups.
Start with an office with good staffing and regional links in order to address specific
needs. Use English, French, Swahili, Arabic language and regional languages where
necessary to meet the needs.

8 - Which country would we recommend to be hadquarters of ICANN and why.
It is difficult to suggest a county. But we think putting in place a set of objective
criterias will help in the selection.

We think a Bilingual county would be an asset. Also a good number of computer
litterate will help, especially highly trained ones.
South Africa, Cameroon and Nigeria could be envisaged for future head office.

We thank you for your kind attention.
