For a long time, IPv4 has been readily available. This is no longer the case as currently, AFRINIC has an available but limited pool of IPv4 resources (~1.8 million) to be issued in its coverage region. To be future proof, we need to deploy IPv6. However, there will still be a coexistence between IPv4 and IPv6. We all can?t turn off IPv4 in one go, can we? Hence the need for IPv6 transition techniques. Upon completing this webinar, you will be able to: ? Identify the correct transition technique to enable access to IPv4 and IPv6 Internet ? Understand the required feature-sets for each of the transition techniques ? Audit your network infrastructure for a selected transition technique ? Prototype the implementation of a chosen transition technique Please use the following link to register, and don't forget to add the event to your calendar: http://bit.ly/AFRINICWebinar-1504-Register Date: Thursday 15th April 2021 Time: 12:30 UTC Language: English See you at the webinar! Can you explain the following route data for AS398968, > which comes from RIPEStat and which I just fetched fresh 1 minute ago? loosely speaking, ?implementing rpki? has two parts; #1 signing your prefixes, and #2, validating others? prefixes. the output of the validation process process one of three answers: not found, valid, or invalid. what many global operators that live in the DFZ (ie. the telias and cogents of the world) have done, is to drop prefixes that fail validation (colloquially rpki ?invalids?) if you are contending that cogent/telia/anyone else should be dropping these prefixes (because the network in question claims to do rpki validation), then, they would do so only if the prefixes returned ?invalid? as the output of the validation process. a quick test tells me that none of these are ?invalids?, and in fact, there are some validly signed prefixes here. there are many ways to see the ?rpki status?; here?s one: https://validator.inx.net.za/#/398968/23.252.161.0%2F24 [1] the output here, clearly states ?No VRP Covers the Route Prefix? ie. rpki state = not found. ?not found? is *not* the same as ?invalid?, so there is no reason for any network to drop these prefixes. hth, -n. [1] note: this is not routing data; this is validation data. Below are the AFRINIC Activities Updates for the month of April 2021. AFRINIC Q1 Activities In the first quarter of 2021, we endeavoured to host and coordinate a total of six webinars and one IPv6 Deployathon. Out of these webinars, one was a community consultative webinar that saw 68 Community members take part. During quarter one, we signed digital development MoUs with the Ministry of Digital Economy of Benin (MND) to collaborate on the development of a resilient digital economy infrastructure in their Benin and one with the African Telecommunication Union to undertake research and build the capacity of African Governments and ICT regulators for effective Internet development in Africa. Other collaborations include partnerships with Facebook, Southern Africa Telecommunication Association (SATA), Smart Africa and Autorit? de Regulation de la Poste et de Telecommunication du Congo (ARPTC-DRC). New Co-chairs of the PDP I would like to congratulate Mr. Vincent Ngundi and Mr. Darwin Da Costa on their selection and appointment as PDWG Co-chairs effective 10th April 2021 to serve a two-year term and one-year term respectively. I wish them well in their new position and call on all of us to give them the support that they might require. The replacement of the PDWG Co-chairs was an experience and we recently published the recap and the lessons learnt while facilitating the discussions of replacing the PDWG Co-Chair. Application for Injunction - Cloud Innovation In addition to the existing two pending cases before the Hon. Judge of the Mauritius Supreme Court (i.e Afri Holdings & Others vs AFRINIC (2020); and Logic Web Inc vs AFRINIC (2021)), it has recently come to Management?s knowledge that Cloud Innovation Ltd has lodged an application for an injunction against AFRINIC before the Mauritius Supreme Court. Due to the national lockdown pertaining to the COVID-19 pandemic, AFRINIC is yet to officially receive the relevant court documents. Accordingly, we have requested the attorney of Cloud Innovation Ltd to do the needful so that we receive the relevant documents before AFRINIC may take a stand in the matter. The Africa Internet Summit 2021 Online (AIS?21 Online) / AFRINIC-33 The annual, regional, multi-stakeholder ICT conference, AIS?21 Online is set to take place from 31st May to 4th June 2021. Delegate Registration for this meeting is ongoing and delegates are requested to register before 21st May 2021. This edition of AIS Online hosted by the Internet Service Providers Association of the Democratic Republic of Congo (ISPA-DRC) as our Virtual Host. AIS?21 Online is also calling on members of our community to share their innovation and projects during the summit through presentation proposals. We have provided an opportunity to submit presentations and the presentation proposals guide is available on the AIS?21 Online meeting website. The Call for AIS?21 Online Sponsors is now open. We are calling on African ISPs to take advantage of this opportunity and support the regional meeting. Duration: 2h30 *Please, register in advance for this training:* http://alturl.com/2r5u3 Topic: Abuse Desk Training. Description: The purpose of this training is to provide ISPs and other service platform operators with an understanding of what's required to effectively respond to abuse incidents. The session will focus on the abuse desk team's role, what to look for in team members, how incidents are generated and processed, and finally what the results of the Abuse Desk should look like. Topics: * Purpose of the Abuse Desk: The industry responsibilities and business justifications for an organization to form such a team. In many regions of the world, we have heard that costs and lack of revenue generation are a factor in the negligence of such a team. We will address that by quantifying the value of the team. The Abuse Desk Team Members: How do you hire appropriate and relevant staff and maintain their skills and mental health. This will include portions of presentations given on the importance of mental health considerations within an incident response team that may be dealing with inappropriate, violent, or offensive content. * Abuse Desk Incidents: This will cover the life-cycle of a policy or security incident as it involves a customer. The training assumes complete manual intake and response but will go on to provide guidance on where automation can and should be applied with available resources. Results and Reporting: Sharing the teams' success both internally and with the industry. Tying back to the business justification, this will include a conversation on cost analysis with the purpose of quantifying what the team has achieved for an organization. Best Regards. I asked whether those initiatives would be made public and you replied that they will be when finalized. Are those initiatives finalized yet? The ICT Authority published a Consultation Paper [2] on proposed amendments to regulate Social Media in Mauritius. Section 11.2 of the paper provides details on the infrastructure that the regulator proposes to set up in order to do a Man-In-The-Middle styled decryption of all Facebook traffic in Mauritius. This does not give the impression of leveraging Internet development in Mauritius. On the contrary it sounds like restricting development. On the contrary it sounds like restricting development. By reading it, should I understand that you would like to know whether AFRINIC's meeting with the ICTA would have contributed to the adoption of this ICTA?s Consultation Paper on proposed amendments to the ICT Act for regulating the use and addressing the abuse and misuse of Social Media in Mauritius ? For your information, please note that on 22 February 2021, AFRINIC met ICTA in line with the framework of AFRINIC?s engagement with Internet ecosystem stakeholders, which include public organisations, civil society groups and private sectors. The said meeting was about the review of the adoption and deployment of IPv6 in Mauritius. Both parties seized this opportunity to foster initiatives to accelerate the effective deployment of this protocol on the government and operators networks to allow Internet users in Mauritius to take full advantage of the IPv6. In the light of the above, AFRINIC has neither been consulted for nor participated in the elaboration of this consultation paper. Furthermore, please note that as the African Internet Registry, AFRINIC values ??its neutrality by refraining itself to interfere in the formulation of any national policies to be adopted by a government or an ICT regulator, which may be out of the scope of its mission. However, AFRINIC strives to advocate for a secure and open Internet (ref : https://afrinic.net/2017-04-05-keep-the-internet-open-to-all ) Hoping to have answered your concern, Kind regards _______________________________________________________________ Arthur Carindal N. I recall this having been debated lengthily when the Anti-Shutdown (AFPUB-2017-GEN-001-DRAFT-01) proposal [1] was published. > ? > However, AFRINIC strives to advocate for a secure and open Internet? > (ref :https://afrinic.net/2017-04-05-keep-the-internet-open-to-all) > Would AFRINIC envisage to reiterate the above in a public statement? To be more precise, I am asking whether AFRINIC would consider publishing a public statement that AFRINIC advocates for a secure and open Internet for all? I understand from the prompt clarification that the agenda of the meeting was to discuss IPV6 adoption in Mauritius solely. I do believe that if the first email remained unattended, it would support an erroneous statement causing prejudice to Afrinic. It would therefore be a display of good faith if the parties involved acknowledge the understanding of the clarifications brought. I respect Afrinic's stance of neutrality towards the discussion is surely important given that the discussion involves a regulatory body and the Government of Mauritius. I further appreciate the statement of Afrinic's effort to advocate for an open and secure internet, which in itself is a proclamation. Kind regards, Chandish RK Daiboo.
