[AFRINIC-Announce] Congratulatory Message to Mr Adiel Akplogan for being inducted into the 2019 Internet Hall of Fame

Cybercity, Ebene, Mauritius, 28 September 2019 - We are delighted to learn that Mr Adiel Akplogan, one of the founders of AFRINIC and the first Chief Executive Officer, has been inducted into the 2019 Internet Hall of Fame for his immense contribution to the advancement of the global Internet. Adiel was inducted into the Internet Hall of Fame on Friday, 27 September 2019. He joins a list of notable individuals like Nii Quaynor (one of AFRINIC’S founders and current member of Council of Elders), Vint Cerf, Jon Postel, and Al Gore, among others who have who have been inducted into the Internet Hall of Fame.

Adiel continues to be part of the African Internet community and has been a shining example of what commitment and excellence can achieve. This was clearly demonstrated during his 11 years as the CEO of AFRINIC between 2004 and 2015, helping grow AFRINIC to what it is today. Adiel currently works as the Vice President for Technical engagement at the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) where he develops and coordinates the organisation’s technical engagement. He has been at ICANN since 2015.The Internet Hall of Fame (www.internethalloffame.org) is a recognition programme and virtual museum that celebrates the living history of the Internet and the individuals whose extraordinary contributions have made the Internet, its worldwide availability and use, and its transformative nature, possible. The Internet Hall of Fame was launched by the Internet Society in 2012.

On behalf of the AFRINIC Board of Directors and staff, I would like to heartily congratulate our former CEO for this achievement. We are immensely proud of Adiel and will be forever be indebted to him for helping steer AFRINIC during its nascent years and for his continued commitment to the growth of Africa Internet ecosystem. Cybercity, Ebene, Maurice, le 28 septembre 2019 - Nous sommes heureux d'apprendre que M. Adiel Akplogan, l'un des fondateurs d'AFRINIC et son premier directeur général, a été intronisé au Temple de la renommée de l'internet 2019 (Internet Hall of Fame 2019)  pour son immense contribution à l'avancement de l'Internet à l'échelle mondial. Adiel a été intronisé au Temple de la renommée de l'internet  le vendredi 27 septembre 2019. Il rejoint une liste de personnalités telles que Nii Quaynor (l'un des fondateurs d'AFRINIC et membre actuel du Council of Elders), Vint Cerf, Jon Postel et Al Gore. parmi d'autres qui ont été intronisés au Temple de la renommée de l'internet. Adiel continue de faire partie de la communauté Internet africaine et a été un brillant exemple de ce que l'engagement et l'excellence peuvent atteindre. Cela a été clairement démontré au cours de ses 11 années en tant que DG d’AFRINIC entre 2004 et 2015, aidant AFRINIC à devenir ce qu’elle est aujourd’hui.

Adiel travaille actuellement en tant que vice-président chargé de l’engagement technique auprès de la Société pour l'attribution des noms de domaine et des numéros sur Internet (ICANN), où il développe et coordonne l’engagement technique de l’organisation. Il est à l'ICANN depuis 2015. Le Temple de la renommée de l'internet (www.internethalloffame.org) est un programme de reconnaissance et un musée virtuel qui célèbre l’histoire vivante d’Internet et des personnes dont les contributions extraordinaires ont rendu possible la création d'Internet, sa disponibilité et son utilisation dans le monde, ainsi que sa nature evolutive. Le Temple de la renommée d’Internet a été lancé par l'Internet Society en 2012. 

Au nom du conseil d'administration et du personnel d'AFRINIC, je tiens à féliciter chaleureusement notre ancien DG pour cette réalisation. Nous sommes immensément fiers d’Adiel et lui serons à jamais redevable de l’avoir aidé à diriger AFRINIC au cours de ses toutes premières années et de son engagement continu en faveur de la croissance de l’écosystème Internet africain.
