[AfriNIC-announce] whois interruption

Dear Colleagues,

At around 06h20 UTC today (15th April) it was detected that AfriNIC's primary whois service was detected as down.  Investigation revealed a latency problem between the back-end database, and the front-end whois interface, that was spuriously timing out whois queries.  As it was not conclusive what was causing the unreasonable latency between queries, it was decided to restart the whois daemon.  

Services resumed as per normal, at 06h40 UTC, and the environment is, as always, under careful observation.
