Hi George,

I have looked at the program of the AIS – 2013 and the following are my comments and suggestions:

Saturday - 15 and Sunday – 16: 4 parallel Trainings/Workshops.

Please note there would be a number of AfNOG Tutorials, AfricaCERT as well as ISOC Programs on these days.

Regarding Programs from 17 - 21 June, I agree with Hisham that we should first look at the programs usually held and decide on what other programs to add. In any case the whole idea of AIS was to run the origin AfNOG / AFRINIC programs and add new ones as well.

I join Geert Jan and Nancy in stating that we must continue to have AfNOG Technical meeting to meet the needs of our community.

Further, why not reduce the number of parallel sessions for the conference days?We risk the possibility of splitting the audience into scanty groups and this may not augur well for an Event that has been carefully built over the years.

AfREN is another important Event which is of importance to our Research and Educational Unit and they have already confirmed participation hence must be included.

I will suggest that you revisit the previous programs of AfNOG and AfriNIC meetings and strike a balance in the program.

Thank you,

Marcus

From: george@afrinic.net
Date: Fri, 8 Feb 2013 17:00:29 +0400
To: AISpc@afrinic.net
CC:
Subject: [AISPC] Programme

Dear all,

Hope you are all keeping well.

As we think about the issues and programme, seek to incorporate disparate interests, we have come up with a tentative programme table which shows what we may want to see on the menu. As it is evident from the table, we will continue to have the trainings/workshops.

We would like to have an official opening day on Monday to ensure the rest of the week is dedicated to stuff that the community and stakeholders are interested in.

We would like to agree on the thematic issues as quickly as possible to help us move forward. For example, what we would like to see addressed in the parallel sessions, panels, presentations as well roundtables? Hopefully we can do this in two weeks to allow us agree on what should go where on the table. Once that is done, we can then proceed with the call for papers and presentations and think on who can sit on the various panels. Similarly, we can start to think of who can give keynotes. I suppose the keynote speakers will be interested in seeing what issues will be on our programme.

Please let us know what you think, and especially on the thematic issues you would like included in the programme. Your input would be critical to ensuring we move quickly forward and give people ample time to prepare to attend the event.

Thanks in advance as we await your contributions on this important exercise.

George
