The author's name has been taken out for the time being:

DirectAccess allows a Windows 7 client to have always-on/always-connected
experience to the corporate network without the need for a VPN. Where ever
the client goes (coffee shop, home, another corporate network, whatever) the
client will automatically connect back to the corporate network and allow
the user to access resources just like they were sitting at their desk.

All of this is accomplished through the magic of end-to-end connectivity,
provided by IPv6. Teredo or 6to4 is used on the client to allow it to
connect to the server in the absence of a Native IPv6 connection, although
Native v6 is supported as well.

Internally, only those corporate servers that have an IPv6 address will we
visible to the client. ISATAP is used as the transition technology of
choice, but we see that NAT-PT will be used more than we would like to
perform the translation within the network.

Take a look at the information located at www.microsoft.com/directaccess for
more details.
