Protecting websites and penalizing those who hack them is outside the mandate of both the AfriNIC and ICANN.</p>
<p>However, because these two bodies recognize the complexity of the Internet eco-system, they have in their own ways contributed to this cause. Take AfriNIC for example: through the AfriCERT and Afgwg initiatves, they are raising awareness of online security issues, and also building capacity to deal with security incidents in today's connected world that transcends territorial borders.</p>
