Of course the most reasonable action, before getting upset about a website being hacked, and wondering about possible legal remedies, is to make very certain that your web site and the underlying infrastructure are protected against such attacks. <div>

Protecting websites and penalizing those who hack them is outside the mandate of both the AfriNIC and ICANN.<p></p>
<p>However, because these two bodies recognize the complexity of the Internet eco-system, they have in their own ways contributed to this cause. Take AfriNIC for example: through the AfriCERT and Afgwg initiatves, they are raising awareness of online security issues, and also building capacity to deal with security incidents in today's connected world that transcends territorial borders.</p>
