This is a naive position. What happens if Afrinic goes into receivership, has a court case, or some other legal matter against it? The database might then become a valuable asset that a court may decide needs to be alienated as part of a legal settlement. Before making such lofty promises about "mission and research purposes," it will be a good idea to take a hard look at the legal issues involved in the jurisdictions where operations take place. <div>

</div>Be reinsured El, AFRINIC is not going to **alienate** its Database unless<br>
for activities inline with its mission or for research purposes. From where<br>
the discussion comes from (the WHOIS cleanup policy) my previous comments<br>
were more into the ability for members/community to freely and openly change<br>
the content of the WHOIS.<br>
