Hello everyone,<div><br></div><div>First to those who seized the opportunity and volunteered and I find that is healthy to have remarks and feedback about the process followed. It is good that we have more information and details, thanks for sharing.</div>
<div><br></div><div>Ad hoc work or group is good to act quickly and for starting, but it has many flaws and it is workaround or temporary solution which should led to more sustained and open approach. In addition, showing solidarity doesn't mean preventing people from expressing contradictory opinions, consensus is built through discussion and workin toward common ground and understanding not by imposing ideas or dismissing comments.</div>
<div><br></div><div>Saying that, I think we should start defining some principles or rules of engagement for future initiatives involving our community:</div><div>- having in mind balance and representation regarding all stakeholders (gov, ccTLD, private sector, users, civils society, academics etc) and regions, our continent has more than 50 countries ! That also raise the needs to bring more people from Africa but that is another story.</div>
<div>- communicating with the community in public space like this mailing list and other fora and call for volunteers till setting a more permanent structure</div><div>- discussions and documents should be public for openness and transparency .</div>
<div><br></div><div>that doesn't prevent people from initiating ad hoc working groups and involving the community later, those principles soul give some guidance and avoid misunderstanding . We should have in mind that representation of all stakeholders and diversity is critical.</div>
<div><br></div><div>For more substance, I think that ICANN should start more proper public consultation and not throwing the hot potatoes to volunteers. It was somehow mistake form CEO but it is ok, we have opportunity and let's see if some changes will happen and we will let Icann accountable .</div>
<div><br></div><div>I would like to suggest that we share more information prior to and during Icann meetings, I didn't hear about that ad hoc session , it is sad.but let's think about Toronto meeting, looks we have some homework.</div>

The use of technology and the array of discussion lists around means that there is wide indirect consultation. The fact that we are discussing your concerns on a list viewed by thousands is testament to that fact.</div>
<div><br></div><div>We need to embrace the means we have and also be proactive. The members at ICANN 44 were proactive and seized the opportunity. They then used the means necessary to align the opportunity by widening the ad-hoc team membership and now seeking community input which is a journey to normalisation.</div>
<div><br></div><div>We are in a process so I think we need to be appreciative to those who seize the opportunity and then be supportive in guiding them through dialogue to achieve a win-win solution.</div><div><br></div>

Hii..<div>Thank you for the explanation which made it clear that not all the information is shared widely before, during, and after any Africans Meetings?!! That is against the guidelines... There was no reason to rush in response to CEO's directive the way it was done.... There were time to flash an email to request for Inputs then... I wonder why that was not done? Was this shared within participants? The list of participants is available...</div>
<div><br></div><div>What made me raise all this is a simple fact that, what are we doing if such important information could not be shared in Good time when ICANN mtg was going on? </div><div>If it was not possible then, will mobile phone survey work? </div>
<div>My suggestion would be to inform the ICANN CEO that a proper consultation need to be made and report at appropriate time - could be after Toronto mtg since the process takes time (and the WG was self selected as it is obvious now therefore the information would not represent opinions from all Africans concerned)</div>
<div><br></div><div>Will that email to the CEO made public please? Thank you.</div><div>The meaning for all this is to paint the true picture of our participation and representation at ICANN mtgs and to absolve our interactions with ICANN from political organisations.</div>
<div>That is all I have for now on this issue.</div><div>Kind regards</div><div>Yassin(always for Africa!)</div><div><br><font>From Yassin . Sent from samsung mobile. On O2.</font> </div><br><br><br>Dandjinou Pierre <<a>pdandjinou@gmail.com</a>> wrote:<br>

<div>Thanks for the feedback on the questionnaires. Your different points suggest there is a flaw in the way we communicate within this African Icann community! If the minutes of the African meetings in Prague were circulated on the different lists, you probably would have noticed there is no exclusion whatesoever, nor any highjacking on representing Africa.</div>
<div> </div>
<div>I then hope the organizers of the 'African meetings at ICANN 44 in Prague will provide minutes and other detailed information.Btw, a special list was set up during the conference and I am copying this to it..</div>
<div> </div>
<div>I can only state that African participants to Icann were invited to a meeting with Icann Board and the incoming CEO. Those who could make it to the meeting did it, and were informed by the new CEO that he is keen to assist, and that an Africa specific strategy was needed by Next Icann meeting in Toronto in October. Participants then resolved to form a working group and three people were unanimously nominated..Tarek, Nii and myself..Then considerations on gender balance as well as regional representation were floated..with the addition of Maimouna Diop and Palesa Legoze..and still waiting for regional representatives to join..</div>
