Next week, in the F.C.T, the group; Broadband for Nigeria (BB4NG) will be engaging consumer advocacy groups, internet service and infrastructure providers, regional and national regulators, Government Institutions and Agencies in a forum that would be geared towards contributing a framework for developing national broadband strategy for Nigeria.<BR>
This announcement which was made recently by the group's convener, Dr Ibrahim Aminu, says the aim is to produce a framework document that will guide the provision of broadband internet access to all Nigerians.<BR>
This document will then be presented to the Federal Government of Nigeria and key stakeholder groups for inclusion in relevant policies and to guide broadband implementation.<BR>
According to organisers "The Nigeria ICT Forum would like to engage a broad spectrum of stakeholders to begin to discuss how we may fashion a broadband policy for Nigeria. Your voices are critical in this process to represent the rich and divergent views of Nigerians."<BR>
The goal of the strategy, organisers have said is to have broadband, with speed of at least 4Mbps, that is accessible, affordable and dependable to citizens and consumers in Nigeria.<BR>
"This objective seeks to address the gaps that exist in infrastructure in the country and relates to both network infrastructure and end user devices.<BR>
It also seeks to address gaps in ICT literacy skills across the population; from basic ICT skills acquired through informal training schemes to the building up of more technical competence through the formal education system."<BR>
