New EU digital agenda unveiled

The European commission has put increased access to superfast
broadband at the heart of its new digital agenda, reports the Times.

Digital
agenda commissioner Neelie Kroes set out plans to connect all EU
citizens to broadband by 2013, with half of the population having access
to superfast speeds of up to 100Mbps by 2020.

The commission
warned that a lack of skills could result in Europe failing to fill up
to 700,000 jobs by 2015, reports the paper, with up to a third of
European citizens having never used the internet.

Other plans
outlined include a single market for digital services, including
