                                                                        La question des <a href="http://www.domainesinfo.fr/definition/65/idn-internationalized-domain-name.php"> caractères accentués ou IDN </a> ne concerne pas seulement les noms de domaines.  Des extensions géographiques accentuées (<a href="http://www.domainesinfo.fr/extension/1332/idn-11-nouvelles-extensions-pour-les-caracteres-multilingues.php"> ccTLD en caractères arabes</a> par exemple) pourraient en effet voir le jour d'ici fin 2008 selon l'ICANN.

<br>Dans cette perspective,  l'ICANN publie une <a href="http://ccnso.icann.org/workinggroups/idnc-proposed-methodology-31mar08.pdf"> proposition de charte</a> visant à déterminer comment et sur quels critères seront sélectionnées ces futures extensions géographiques accentuées.

<br>Le document s'intéresse particulièrement à 2 aspects : d'un côté,
quelles langues pourront officiellement prétendre à la création d'une
extension ccTLD accentuée. De l'autre, quelles entités auront la
responsabilité de gérer ces extensions géographiques accentuées, une
fois celle-ci validée par l'ICANN.

<br><big><b>Seules les langues officielles seront acceptées</b></big>

<br>D'après cette charte, seules les langues qui ont un statut légal ou
servent officiellement de langue administrative à un pays donné
pourront postuler. Les normes <a href="http://www.loc.gov/standards/iso639-2/php/code_list.php"> ISO 639</a> et <a href="http://www.iso.org/iso/fr/country_codes/iso_3166_code_lists.htm"> ISO 3166 </a> pourraient servir de référence pour évaluer le caractère officiel d'une langue candidate.

<br>Un <a href="http://www.icann.org/announcements/announcement-04apr08.htm"> appel à commentaires</a>
est ouvert jusqu'au 25 avril 2008 pour réagir à ces propositions, avant
une présentation officielle de la charte prévue lors du prochain
meeting <a href="http://www.domainesinfo.fr/actualite/1345/le-meridien-montparnasse-choisi-pour-l-icann-paris-2008.php"> ICANN de Paris qui se déroulera du 22 au 26 juin 2008</a>.
