Update on the 2008 ICANN Nominating Committee

10 February 2008

This is an update on the progress of the 2008 ICANN Nominating
Committee. The 2008 Nominating Committee began its work in November
2007 following the ICANN Annual Meeting in Los Angeles, California, and
is actively seeking qualified candidates for the following key
positions within ICANN:

2 Board Directors

1 GNSO Council member

1 ccNSO Council member

2 ALAC members (Europe and North America)

In December 2007, the Nominating Committee announced it was seeking
expressions of interest from an organization capable of interviewing
and assessing candidates for ICANN leadership positions. ICANN has
entered into an agreement with Ray & Berndtson to provide candidate
assessment services to the 2008 Nominating Committee. Ray &
Berndtson will conduct interviews and assessments on candidates
selected by the Nominating Committee, and will conduct its work from
its main offices in Frankfurt, Germany.

The 2008 Nominating Committee has received 35 Statements of
Interest, 33 of the candidates are male, while 2 are female. 8
candidates are from Europe, 8 are from Asia/Australia/Pacific, 4 are
from Latin America/Caribbean, 10 are from North America, and 5 are from
Africa. Some candidates count toward more than one ICANN region.

30 candidates have declared a willingness to serve on the ICANN
Board, 20 have declared a willingness to serve on the GNSO Council, 16
have declared a willingness to serve on the ccNSO Council, and 12 have
declared a willingness to serve on the ALAC. Please note that some
candidates have asked to be considered for more than one position.

Those individuals selected by the Nominating Committee will have a
unique opportunity to work with accomplished colleagues from around the
globe, address intriguing technical coordination problems and related
policy development challenges with diverse functional, cultural, and
geographic dimensions, and gain valuable insights and experience from
working across these boundaries of knowledge, responsibility and
perspective.

Information on applying is available at http://nomcom.icann.org/.
Prospective candidates are invited to submit their Statements of
Interest to the Nominating Committee by 15 April 2008 23:59 UTC. The
2008 Nominating Committee does not anticipate extending the nomination
period as it has done in previous years.

About ICANN:

ICANN is responsible for the global coordination of the Internet's
system of unique identifiers like domain names (like .org, .museum and
country codes like .uk) and the addresses used in a variety of Internet
protocols that help computers reach each other over the Internet.
Careful management of these resources is vital to the Internet's
operation, so ICANN's global stakeholders meet regularly to develop
policies that ensure the Internet's ongoing security and stability.
