<h2 style="clear: left; margin-bottom: 0px;">ICANN Completes Renewal of Registry Services Technical Evaluation Panel</h2>
<p style="margin: 15px 0px 0px;">6 September  2007</p>
<p>     ICANN is pleased to announce that 23 members of the Registry Services Technical
Evaluation Panel (RSTEP) have agreed to serve for an additional year. On 30
August 2006, ICANN announced the original members of the RSTEP, the panel of
technical experts created to provide guidance to ICANN on security and stability
issues during the review of registry services proposals under the Registry
Services Evaluation Policy (<a href="http://www.icann.org/announcements/announcement-30aug06.htm">http://www.icann.org/announcements/announcement-30aug06.htm</a>).
RSTEP members serve for one year terms, renewable for additional years
subject to the mutual agreement of ICANN and the RSTEP members. </p>
<p>In 2006, RSTEP Review Teams issued two reports on registry services
proposals. The first report was issued on 2 November 2006 on the
Tralliance search.travel wildcard proposal (<a href="http://www.icann.org/registries/rsep/tralliance_report.pdf">http://www.icann.org/registries/rsep/tralliance_report.pdf</a>
[PDF, 245K]). The second report was issued on 4 December 2006 on Global
Name Registry's proposal for the limited release of two-character names
in .NAME (<a href="http://www.icann.org/registries/rsep/RSTEP-GNR-proposal-review-team-report.pdf">http://www.icann.org/registries/rsep/RSTEP-GNR-proposal-review-team-report.pdf</a> [PDF, 789K]). No RSTEP reviews have been conducted in 2007.

<h2 style="clear: left; margin-bottom: 0px;">ICANN Posts Communication from the Universal Postal Union (UPU) Regarding its Sponsorship of the .POST Top-Level Domain</h2>
<p style="margin: 0px; font-size: small;">ICANN Continues Negotiations with UPU for .POST sTLD</p>
<p style="margin: 15px 0px 0px;">6 September  2007</p>
<p>     <a href="http://www.icann.org/correspondence/donohoe-to-pritz-05sep07.pdf">The attached communication from the UPU</a>
[PDF, 193K] describes aspects of its intended sponsorship of the .POST
sponsored top-level domain. ICANN and the UPU have entered into
negotiations intended to result in the delegation of the .POST
registry. This outreach by the UPU is intended to inform the community
about proposed aspects of the UPU's business model and requested
contractual agreement. These proposals are based upon the UPU's vision
for adding significant value to: the DNS, its member states and their
designated operators¹ of postal services, and the recipients
of postal services. Certain aspects of these terms relate to the UPU's
status as an intergovernmental organization (IGO) comprised of member
states and as specialized agency of the United Nations. </p>
<p>Significantly, this outreach invites public examination and comment
at an early stage of the negotiation. Negotiations will continue and
comments made regarding this material will be taken into account as
they are received. </p>

Telégrafos, in Kazakhstan it's Kazpost, in Malaysia it's Pos Malaysia

<h2 style="clear: left; margin-bottom: 0px;">ICANN Solicits Candidates to Develop Request for Proposals for New gTLDs</h2>

<p style="margin: 15px 0px 0px;">6 September  2007</p>
<p>     ICANN is posting this statement of work as part of its anticipated program
for delegation of new generic top-level domains. ICANN is seeking to engage
a provider to develop in detail important portions of the new gTLD evaluation
process. That is, the selected provider will develop the new gTLD request for
proposals (RFP) process and document. This will become the process that applicants
for new gTLDs will follow and that will describe the evaluation process of
those applications.</p>

<p>Candidate providers are requested to:</p>
<ul><li>submit a statement of interest by 21 September 2007, </li><li>submit a proposal no later than 8 October 2007 that is responsive
to the statement of work and includes proposed scope, schedule and
pricing terms. </li></ul>
