SUMMARY!

This week, more comments on thoughts on The General Data Protection Regulation from the European Union which will take effect on May 25 to clarify individual rights to the personal data collected by companies. So, The Board of Directors of the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) approved proposed "Temporary Specification for gTLD Registration Data<https://www.icann.org/resources/pages/gtld-registration-data-specs-en> to comply with this European Union's General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

On events, The 21st session of the United Nations Commission on Science and Technology for Development (CSTD)<http://unctad.org/en/Pages/MeetingDetails.aspx?meetingid=1670> took place from 14 to 18 May to discuss how best to harness technological progress to improve lives and achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.

At Rightscon in Toronto, a coalition of human rights and technology groups released a new declaration on machine learning standards, calling on both governments and tech companies to ensure that algorithms respect basic principles of equality and non-discrimination.

On net neutrality, US Senate passed a resolution that would restore the Obama-era net neutrality rules.
On fake news, after a shooting at a high school in Santa Fe, Texas, trolls took to Facebook to create fake profiles for the alleged gunman.

In Europe, the Digital Economy and Society Index 2018<https://ec.europa.eu/digital-single-market/desi> measures the performance of EU member states in digital connectivity, online skills and digitisation of businesses and public services, to determine how effectively the transition towards digital technologies is being managed across the bloc.
